Annual Report
Westporters have every reason to be extremely proud! With such a rich history spanning over 200 years, we are recognized for our cultural heritage, our vibrant community and, importantly, the exceptional success of our public school district. But we are not without challenges as understood by our young high school graduates, their parents, and guardians as they grapple with the rising cost of further education and their ability to pay. These students are determined to pursue a college degree, and STG, with the support of our donors, continues to help ensure that their higher education remains within reach.
2024 has had its fair share of challenges but our applicants have also had to cope with the delays associated with the roll out of a new FAFSA process, uncertainty with application deadlines and unknown financial aid packages. Their perseverance, optimism and hard work bodes well for their future.
Throughout this period, our donors have also remained steadfast and generous. STG has received donations from more than 410 members of our community that have enabled the STG Board of Directors to distribute grants from 93 named awards including the STG General Fund. As a result of these wonderful donations, we were able to award $381,500 to 105 students in grants ranging from $1,000 to $7,500. While we were not able to address our applicants’ total need, we were able to meet 14% of their net financial gap. These scholars are attending 72 institutions of higher learning in the Fall of 2024.
On behalf of our Board of Directors, we want to thank our donors, student award recipients, their parents and guardians, the teachers, administrators, and staff who, all together, maintain the mission of Staples Tuition Grants and make our commitment to supporting Staples High School graduates so meaningful.
