STG proudly celebrates the success of the many students we’ve helped over 75 years. Here we will share just a small sample of the inspirational stories from students that STG has supported.  All our recipients follow in the footsteps of many remarkable individuals who also needed financial assistance along the way.

Nellie Stagg, SHS ’09

UCONN Honors Program, BA Sociology ’13

At UCONN I majored in Sociology and have had the opportunity to intern and learn more than I ever thought possible. My dream of college was made possible with the assistance of Staples Tuition Grants. I [graduated] with a BA in June ’13 and I am excited for my future… I feel like I have the whole world at my fingertips. Learning and service are important to me; I hope to be accepted into the AmericCorps NCCC program.

TJ Kerrigan, SHS ’04

Parsons The New School for Design

Working and going to NCC before applying to Parsons allowed me to find out what I wanted to study and practice long-term, Architecture + Design. Thank you STG, for helping me get to college and discover my true skills, talents and abilities.

Andrew Chappo, SHS ’11

University of Vermont ’11-’13
U.S. Military Academy at West Point ’17

Thank you STG for your support over the last 2 years at UVM. I am happy to tell you that I will no longer need financial assistance; I have received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, a long-time goal of mine. The courses I took at UVM and the preparation I received there, thanks to STG, will serve me well at West Point.

Patty Kondub, SHS ‘81

UCONN School of Business ‘85, BS Marketing
Westport/Weston Family Y, AquaFitness & Spinning Manager
SHS, Assistant Varsity and JV Girls Golf Coach

When I applied for an STG, I was determined to pay for my own college education. My Dad was a carpenter and I already had three older siblings graduate college with his help. I worked through high school on the weekends and after school in the spring—The Mansion Clam House, Connolly’s Restaurant and Market Data Retrieval—but I couldn’t make enough to pay for the University of Connecticut. Thankfully, Staples Tuition Grants existed and awarded me funds for my college education. After college, I was in the corporate world for many years. I worked at Donnelley Marketing, a division of Dun & Bradstreet and won the Customer Focus Award. I left to start my own mailing & telemarketing list company, from which I retired after 15 years to pursue my fitness and coaching career. Thank you STG.
